Dancing With Dari
On January 24th, In The Works is holding a one-day dance workshop, led by Dari Kotlarsky. This workshop focuses on storytelling through movement and using choreography to establish dynamic and style.
About the workshop: This workshop will consist of 2 sessions: 9:30am-12:30pm and 1pm-3:45pm. Two different dances will be taught , both choreographed by Dari, one at each session. Participants are welcome to attend both sessions if they wish. This workshop is open to participants aged 16+, with a cost of $8 for each session.
Location: The Rose Centre, 4 School Road, Belmont.
The Sessions:
Morning session (9:30am-12:30pm)
Song: “Mein Herr” from Cabaret.
Style: Fosse-inspired jazz, with a focus on fluid movement and strong dynamics in the arms.
This workshop will be focusing on a 1:30-2 minute section.
Afternoon session (1pm-3:45pm)
Song: “Jet Set” from Catch Me If You Can.
Style: Musical Theatre Jazz
The workshop will be focusing on a 1:30-2 minute section.
If you prefer to focus mainly on style/dynamic, or something with less footwork, the morning session is recommended.
About The Choreographer:
Dari has performed and choreographed for youth and community theatres across Auckland. In 2023, Dari assisted with choreographing sections of the National Youth Theatre's productions of Cats as part of her role as Cast Captain. Most recently, she performed with Centrestage Theatre Company in La Cage aux Folles and Noises Off! She has just taken on the role of Assistant Choreographer in Auckland Music Theatre’s upcoming production of A New Brain. She is also choreographing tap for In The Work's upcoming original musical Clockwork.
